What this is
ReclaimTime is installed on your work computer by your employer. It records which applications and websites are used during working hours, and for how long. Its purpose is to show how a team’s working time is spent. This page tells you exactly what it records and what it does not, so you do not have to guess. What it records
For each application or website you use during your working hours, it records:- The name of the application, for example Microsoft Teams
- The website address, for example
example.com, if you are in a browser - The title of the window, which is the text at the top of it
- When you started and stopped
- How long it was in front of you and being used, how long it was on screen, how long you were typing, and how long you were in a meeting
What it does not record
None of the following is captured, and none of it can be switched on:- No screenshots and no screen recording
- No keystrokes. It measures how long you typed. It does not record what you typed.
- No passwords and no contents of anything you fill in
- No clipboard
- No camera and no microphone. It does not ask for access to either.
- No file contents
- No contents of emails, chats or calls. It can tell that you are in a meeting. It cannot see or hear it.
- No location
- Nothing from your personal accounts. It has no access to your email, files or anything you sign in to.
Outside working hours
Nothing is recorded outside the working days and hours your employer has configured. This is not a filter applied afterwards. Outside those hours the software records nothing at all, so there is nothing to be looked at later.Personal use
Your employer maintains a list of the applications and websites that count as work.- Time on something on that list is recorded with your name.
- Time on anything else is recorded without your name. It is counted towards your team’s totals, but it is not linked to you.
Idle time and breaks
If you do not use the keyboard or mouse for a short while, the current record is closed and the idle time is not counted as working time. Meetings and video are given longer, because you are engaged without touching anything. Time away from your desk is simply absent from the record. It is not recorded as anything.Who can see it
What your supervisor sees is described in the Supervisor guide, which is a public page. You are welcome to read it.
What is on your computer
In its normal configuration the application has no window and no interface. There is nothing to open, no settings to change, and no history for you to look at. If you open ReclaimTime from the Start menu, you get a small dialog telling you whether it is signed in, and nothing else. If it shows an error, take a screenshot and send it to your IT helpdesk. It contains the details they need.Questions
Questions about why this is installed, what the data is used for, and how long it is kept, are for your employer, not for us. We can tell you what the software does, which is what this page is for. We cannot tell you what your employer has decided to do with it.Checked against ReclaimTime client 8.0.0.9 and dashboard V3 on 5 September 2026.
