There are two Windows installers. Which one you use depends on whether the people running it have local administrator rights. Use the standard installer wherever you can. It installs the background components that keep the client running, which the non-admin installer cannot do. The non-admin installer exists for machines where the user cannot elevate.

Download

Both installers are published under reclaimtime.com/download/win. The files themselves are served from our own download host.
If your IT team flags the download host as an unfamiliar source, that is expected. It is our storage account, and the files are code signed as FocusMe (Reclaim Time Ltd). Ask us for the host and path list so they can be approved once rather than case by case. See Domains and URLs to allow-list.

Interactive install

  1. Run the installer. The standard installer raises a User Account Control prompt.
  2. Accept the licence agreement. On an upgrade this page is skipped.
  3. Choose the installation directory, or accept the default.
  4. The client starts on its own when the installer finishes.
Windows SmartScreen may show a warning the first time a new build is seen, even though the file is signed. Choose More info, check that the publisher reads Reclaim Time Ltd, then Run anyway. The warning stops once the build has been seen enough times.

Silent install

Both installers accept the standard NSIS silent switch:
There is no progress window, no prompts and no reboot. This is the form to use from SCCM, Intune, a logon script or any other deployment tool. The standard installer still needs to run in an administrative context.
A silent run of the standard installer also removes any earlier FocusMe installation on the machine. That is deliberate, since ReclaimTime replaces FocusMe on a corporate machine, but it means you should not deploy it silently to a computer where somebody is using FocusMe personally.

What installation puts on the machine

The standard installer adds the application, the background components that keep it running, a helper used by the browser extension, and an entry in Installed apps. The non-admin installer adds the application for the installing user only. If your deployment or endpoint tooling needs file names, install locations or component names, ask us and we will send them.

Customised packages

An organisation can be given a customised installer, preconfigured for its backend and sign-on method. Machines installed from it need no manual configuration and nothing for the employee to type. If your organisation has one, use it rather than the generic installer. Ask us if you are not sure which you have.

After installing

The client signs in on its own as the logged-in Windows user. If the account exists, tracking starts and nothing else is needed. If it does not, the client shows a dialog with the details to send to an administrator and keeps retrying. See First login and SSO.
